Dr. Biren Nadkarni is a practicing Senior Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon, having 15 years of rich and dynamic experience. He is currently working at Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research and at Holy Family Hospital. With his keen interest in this expanding field of management of arthritis and joint replacement surgery, he aims to widen the future horizon to the maximum.
Reared in a typical Indian environment Dr. Biren was born on 23rd September, 1975. He qualified his MBBSfrom Maulana Azad Medical College and associated Lok Nayak and G.B. Pant Hospitals. He then did his post graduation (MS Orthopaedics) at the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) and completed his senior residency at GTB hospital. His passion to study the vast dome of orthopaedics led him to undertake various fellowships from different countries including England, Germany and Austria.
Dr. Biren’s area of specialization includes the medical and surgical management of Knee arthritis and Hip arthritis. He is very proficient in Adult Joint Reconstruction Procedures (Joint Replacements including Primary as well as Revision surgeries) with a vast experience of performing around 500 Shoulder, Hip and Knee replacement surgeries in his career.
Besides Joint Replacement (Knee, Hip, Shoulder), Dr. Biren also has gathered expertise in Arthroscopy i.e. Keyhole surgery (Knee, Shoulder), in common surgeries for trauma (Open Reduction, Nailing, Plating), and in Pelvic Acetabular Reconstructions for Acetabular fractures.
He has undergone specialized training in his area of expertise from several institutes abroad. In Germany, he trained in ‘Revision Hip and Knee surgery’ with Prof. Bernd Fink at the Orthopadische Klinik, Markgroningen. He followed it with the prestigious ‘AO fellowship in Trauma and Arthroscopy’ at University Klinik for Trauma and Sports Medicine, Innsbruck, Austria with Prof Michael Blauth.
He is one of the very few Orthopaedic surgeons who practises the technique of Minimally Invasive Fracture Reconstruction for indicated fractures with excellent results.
Accumulating his credentials, Dr. Biren’s research has been awarded SIROT Award at XXII SIROT / SICOT Triennial World Congress, San Diego, USA, 23-30 August 2002; this is awarded once in three years with a Diploma Certification to the Best, Original and Unpublished Research Work in Orthopaedics together with an award of USD 3000.
