Sports Medicine

                Sports medicine is the application of medical science into sports arena which focuses on the physical fitness, treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. It is the branch of medicine that came to prominence in the late 20th century and now it has emerged as a distinct entity in health care. The sports medicine squad includes special physicians and surgeons, veteran athletic trainers, sports and athletic coaches, physical therapists and of course the athletes. The most common sports injuries are runners knee, pulled hamstring muscles, shin splints, ankle sprains and Achilles tendonitis. Sports medicine doctors work in tandem with sports athletes and sports persons who have concussions, skin infections, eating disorders and performance issues. These doctors are also frequently involved in promoting the therapeutic benefits of physical exercise and sport for individuals and communities. The main objective of sports medicine is not cure and rehabilitation, but also preventive, which is the foremost one of all.
